Back Pain and Energy Imbalance: How Bioenergy Therapy Approaches Tension in the Body

Persistent tension or pain in the back has many possible causes, and in bioenergy therapy it is sometimes linked to an energy imbalance as well. In this article we briefly explain that connection, but above all, how bioenergy therapy approaches working with the back and how it can help support the body in releasing tension.

When Back Pain Is Linked to an Energy Imbalance

Back pain is one of the most common reasons people seek any kind of support for the body, from physiotherapy to relaxation and massage. In bioenergy therapy, long-lasting, persistent tension in the back is sometimes seen as a place where the flow of energy has slowed, especially when the pain returns despite rest or when there is no clear physical cause that fully explains it. Anyone just starting to explore the concept of energy imbalance can find a broader introduction to the topic in the earlier article on energy blockages.

It’s important to stress that this is an additional perspective within bioenergy therapy as an approach, not a medical diagnosis. Bioenergy therapy complements, but does not replace, the approach of conventional medicine, so any serious or long-lasting back pain should always be checked with a doctor first.

Why Tension Most Often Builds Up in the Back

The back carries a large share of everyday physical strain, and, according to the experience of bioenergy therapists, emotional strain as well. Long periods of sitting, stress, lack of movement, and suppressed emotions are often reflected in the body precisely in this area, so it isn’t unusual for a feeling of “heaviness in the back” to appear during periods of increased pressure. In bioenergy therapy this is explained by the fact that the back region is close to several energy centers that are sensitive to prolonged stress.

The same symptom can have many different explanations, from physical ones to perfectly everyday ones (poor posture, lack of movement), so it’s always a good idea to first rule out health causes with a general practitioner or physiatrist. Once those causes have been checked or ruled out, bioenergy therapy can be an additional support for the body.

How Bioenergy Therapy Approaches Back Pain

Bioenergy therapy doesn’t approach the back in isolation, but as part of the overall flow of energy through the body. Instead of focusing the work exclusively on the spot where the pain is felt, the bioenergy therapist checks the state of the energy centers (chakras) and looks for where the flow has slowed, since tension in the back is often linked to an imbalance that has a broader source in the body.

The goal of the work isn’t instantly “removing” the pain, but gradually creating conditions in which the body relieves itself. People who come for treatments regularly most often describe a feeling of lightness in the back, calmer breathing, and easier relaxation after a session, although every person’s experience is individual.

Precisely because the whole system is considered, not just the painful spot, more regular work on energy balance can, over time, reduce the likelihood that the same tension builds up again in the same area.

What Working on the Back Looks Like in Practice

A session usually begins with a brief conversation about where the pain is felt most and how long it has lasted. This is followed by the energy work itself, during which the person sits or stands while the therapist checks the state of the chakras and identifies the areas that seem most burdened, including those connected to the back region. After the session, the therapist usually shares their observations and, if needed, suggests a direction for further work.

Vlasta Jašćur, who has been practicing bioenergy therapy for 38 years, adapts this work to each person individually, since tension appears in different places and for different reasons in different people. More about the approach is available on the page about bioenergy therapy in Zagreb, and for those who cannot come in person there is also the option of remote treatment.

Why a Bioenergy Therapist’s Experience Matters

When working with pain, including back pain, a bioenergy therapist’s experience really comes into play: an experienced therapist recognizes when something is outside their scope and when a person should be referred to a doctor, instead of treating every case the same way. Guidelines for recognizing a reliable practitioner are available in this article.

Vlasta Jašćur belongs to a small circle of bioenergy therapists in Croatia with such long, continuous practice, with additional training in the fundamentals of clinical psychology and psychiatry, as well as philosophical-religious systems through HUPED. Over 38 years of work in Zagreb, a large number of clients with different kinds of tension and pain have gone through her approach.

When to See a Doctor First

Back pain that is sudden, severe, accompanied by numbness or weakness in the legs, or occurs after an injury requires a medical examination before any other step.
